A judge on Friday denied a motion for bond reconsideration for Middletown’s former treasurer and town manager, who remains jailed as she awaits trial on felony embezzlement charges.
Rebecca Louise Layman, 52, is accused of embezzling “in the six figures” from the town between 2017 and 2022, Frederick County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Heather Enloe has indicated.
Layman is scheduled to stand trial in November on 12 counts of embezzlement.
Layman’s bond was revoked in July after she was arrested and charged with shoplifting for allegedly failing to scan about $80 worth of merchandise from self-checkout at the Martin’s grocery store at 200 Gateway Drive.
