A man was fatally shot during a reported weekend break-in at a Decatur home.

Officers responded at 7:36 p.m. Sunday to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of 22nd Avenue S.W.

While officers were responding, said police spokesman Jonathan Bates, the 911 caller told dispatch they had shot the man.

The man was found shot inside the home and pronounced dead on the scene by Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn.

Chunn said his name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Bates said the shooter is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to Morgan County District Attorney’s Office for grand jury consideration.
