INDIANAPOLIS —

Indiana will execute a death row inmate next week.

Gov. Mike Braun has denied clemency for Roy Ward, allowing his execution to proceed as scheduled for next Friday, Oct. 10.

The Indiana Parole Board unanimously recommended denying Ward's request for clemency after conducting public hearings last week.

Ward was convicted of the 2001 rape and murder of 15-year-old Stacy Payne in her family's home near Dale, which is about 75 miles west of Louisville.

Ward declined to be interviewed during the clemency process, though his legal team argued he was misdiagnosed with antisocial personality disorder.

They say he should have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
