New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields (7) got sacked in back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter before exiting the game, Sunday, September 14, 2025, in East Rutherford.

The New York Jets are getting some fantastic lineup news as they visit the Miami Dolphins in primetime on Monday night. With the rebuilding team still seeking its first win of the 2025 season, Gang Green will officially have offseason free-agent signing Justin Fields back in the starting lineup.

Fields suffered a concussion during a Week 2 blowout loss to another AFC East rival, the Buffalo Bills. That injury kept Fields out of the Jets' lineup in a Week 3 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Given Fields' tremendous natural athletic ability as a quarterback, it's safe to say that the Jets really missed the baked-in, matchup advantages his talents can create.

He's back and not a moment too soon:

Fields is good to go now. Which also means he's hopefully healthy enough to create the same electric magic he put on display against the Pittsburgh Steelers in his debut. Suffice it to say, the Jets are much more dangerous with that version of Fields.

Who is Justin Fields' backup?

Fields' backup is longtime NFL veteran Tyrod Taylor. Taylor started for the Jets in Week 3 while Fields was out and has over 15 years of experience as both a starter and a backup.
