WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - There are four areas of West Baton Rouge Parish that will see some extra attention after mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus.
You might think a drop in rainfall amounts would help keep those pesky mosquitoes away, but George Bragg, the superintendent of West Baton Rouge Mosquito Control, said it’s not always the case.
“We usually see a lot more West Nile Virus in mosquitoes when things are dry,” explained Bragg.
Bragg saw eight samples from across the parish come up positive for the virus just last week; numbers he doesn’t typically see this late in the year.
“It is a larger batch of samples later in the season but not unusual as far as West Nile activity statewide,” said Bragg.
