LUMBERTON —Robeson County Church and Community Center announced Monday that it is the recipient of a $1 million gift from the estate of Mary Anna Gray.

The late Gray fell in love with the work of the Center in the late 1990s. During this time she served as Chair of the Board of Directors and was responsible for hiring well-known former director Steve Taylor who went on to serve as Director of Connectional Ministries for the N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Estate Executor Attorney David Ramsaur notified the Center of this award through an in-person meeting and shared Gray’s wishes for the gift through a letter. Gray intended that the funds be used to provide food, medicine and other emergency financial needs for residents of Robeson County.
