MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Milton has missed Monday’s self-imposed deadline to fill a vacancy on its City Council.
The seat opened after former city councilmember Troy Nicely resigned on July 31 due to a family emergency. According to Milton’s municipal code , the mayor and council have 60 days to fill a vacancy on the city council.
The Council met on Sept. 2 after Mayor Shane Evans nominated Leora Shelton to fill the seat. However, that vote failed.
Another meeting was set for last Friday to vote on Evans’s nomination of Dean Bishop, a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff and former candidate for Milton City Council. However Evans canceled that meeting, telling WSAZ he did so because he learned that Bishop had met with Kyle O’Dell, Milton’s police chief.
