New Haven police are investigating the homicide of a teenager that happened in the Newhallville neighborhood over the weekend.

Chief Karl Jacobson of the New Haven Police Department identified the victim as 15-year-old Kaiden Phillips, of New Haven.

Jacobson said officers responded to the area of Bassett and Butler streets on Saturday at 7:48 p.m., and that’s where they found Phillips lying unresponsive at Lincoln Bassett Community School.

Phillips was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he later died, according to the police chief.

Jacobson said these cases are particularly tough to solve given most of the people involved and the witnesses are underage.
