The Oceanside Services Committee has endorsed a motion asking the Regional District of Nanaimo to match the funds provided by the Qualicum School District for the replacement of the goalposts at the newly renovated field at Ballenas Secondary.
The Ballenas Whalers Football Society has been raising funds to pay for a pronged goalpost that would cost more than $26,000.
The school district has earmarked $10,000 to help pay for the equipment. Electoral Area G (French Creek, San Pareil, Little Qualicum, Englishman River) director Lehann Wallace, at the committee meeting on Sept. 18, made a motion to get the RDN to also donate a similar amount that would be drawn from the Northern Community Recreation Service operating reserve in 2025.
