Palm Bay Fire Rescue said an orange-hued vapor seen by many in the northeast part of the city on Monday is "harmless."
Reports of the vapor popped up on social media from people driving in the area of southern Melbourne and northeast Palm Bay, including from the Melbourne Causeway. Palm Bay Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief John Ringleb said the vapor originated at the FAR Chemical on Wilhelmina Court NE, just north of the intersection of US Route 1 and Robert J Conlan Boulevard NE.
The plant manager told PBFR that the vapor released is "harmless to the environment, wildlife, soil, pets, and people." Ringleb said that Haz-Mat crew members took multiple air samples in the area that returned normal readings and supported what the plant manager told fire rescue crews.
