MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Some Florida and Alabama counties are working with the federal government to crack down on suspected illegal immigrants.
The Department of Homeland Security sent the Mobile County and Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Offices an “immigration list.”
“A lot of them are from Guatemala and El Salvador,” said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch.
The lists include suspected illegal immigrants whose last known location was in Mobile County. Burch said everyone on the list had either a criminal background or deportation orders.
“There are some with violent crimes,” said Burch. “This mission is to safeguard our country.”
Santa Rosa County had fewer than 10 people listed, while Mobile County had 99 people on its list.
