According to the University of Florida, gunshots were reported at the Smathers Library on Monday night; however, moments later, the school issued a statement on social media saying that no gunshots were fired and that the incident was consistent with hoax calls.

Operations at the school will resume as normal, the school said

University police at the time asked students and those in the area to avoid the library and seek shelter if they were near the building.

There is no criminal activity or injuries identified at this time, the school said.
