NEW YORK — Jarren Duran has been held out of the lineup nine times this year when the Red Sox have faced a left-handed starting pitcher.

He also has batted just .211 with a .260 on-base percentage, .340 slugging percentage and .600 OPS in 209 plate appearances vs. lefties compared to posting a .277/.363/.488/.852 line in 487 plate appearances vs. right-handed pitchers.

But manager Alex Cora said Monday that Duran will start in left field when Boston faces Yankees left-handed ace Max Fried in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series on Tuesday.

Fried has made three starts against Boston this season. Duran was in the lineup for those first two games but he did not start when Fried pitched on Sept. 13 at Fenway Park.

Cora provided no other specific lineup details.
