A plane headed from Los Angeles to Boston had to suddenly stop as it was taking off when a cargo jet crossed its runway Sunday night, federal aviation officials said.
Crew on American Airlines Flight 2453 spotted the other plane on the runway at Los Angeles International Airport and stopped, the airline side. The plane later took off normally.
"We thank our crew members for their quick action and our customers for their understanding," read a statement from American Airlines.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that air traffic control told the American Airlines crew to cancel the takeoff when the other plane, Aerologic Flight 619, crossed the runway about 10:35 p.m.
The two planes were only as close as about a mile, according to the FAA.
