GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Last weekend marked one year since Hurricane Helene hit East Tennessee.
On Monday, Greene County residents marked the anniversary with a community remembrance at the Greene County Courthouse.
The event paid homage to the first responders who put their lives in danger to help those affected by the storm.
Officials said it’s important to recognize the positives of the tragedy, even with so much devastation.
“When you go through a disaster like this, you have negative feelings, you’re upset, you’ve lost a lot of things, the community’s lost a lot of things,” said Tusculum Mayor Alan Corley. “It’s important to do this to remember all the things we did that were good.“
Corley was on site for recovery efforts in Greeneville as the tragedy unfolded.
