WATERBURY, Conn. — Seven Waterbury Fire Department cadets were allegedly involved in cheating during an EMT test and have resigned, according to the city's mayor Monday.

Mayor Paul Pernerewski, Jr. said an EMT course is required in the firefighters' training. Thirteen cadets were in the class for the training.

After the city was alerted that at least one of the cadets was cheating during a test on Aug. 15, the fire department and human resources conducted an investigation that included video of the classroom and interviews with all 13 cadets.

The seven who were involved in the cheating resigned before the investigation had completed and any disciplinary steps were taken, Pernerewski said.
