ALABASTER, Ala. (WIAT) -- Mike Myers won the Alabaster City Council Ward 1 seat by one vote after provisional ballots were canvassed Monday.

“It’s an emotional time," Myers said. "A lot of hard work went into it."

Alabaster City Council President and Ward 1 Councilor Sophie Martin read each provisional ballot one by one. The first name read: Gerry Bivins. Yet Myers needed just one vote to win, and the second provisional ballot had his name marked.

“I want to thank everybody for putting their support and trust into me,” Myers said.

Myers received 262 votes, and Bivins earned 261 votes in the runoff for the seat. Those totals include the three provisional ballots the city council opened.

It was an emotional night for Myers, who had tears come to his eyes when the votes were announced. A
