GILMER, Texas — What started with a few red flags quickly turned into a parent’s nightmare for a former Gilmer football standout, after an unimaginable diagnosis changed everything.

Sean Wallace, 20, a star on Gilmer’s 2023 state championship team, was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. Now after intensive surgery he is on a long road to recovery with the support of his family and the East Texas community.

Shontisha Wallace knew something was wrong when her son, Sean, came home from Trinity Valley Community College, where he played football.

“His behavior was odd,” Shontisha said. “I noticed that he wasn't processing information, and my son is very quick-witted.”

Sean, a former Gilmer Buckeye and TVCC player, had shown signs of a possible concussion.
