Durga Puja celebrations are underway across Assam, but this year, the festivities are deeply overshadowed by the passing of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore on September 19.

Puja committees across the state have turned their celebrations into platforms of remembrance, with mandaps paying homage to the singer whose music has long been the soundtrack of Assam’s Durga Puja.

In Guwahati, pandals are resonating with Zubeen’s songs, while many committees have set up special corners dedicated to his memory. Visitors can be seen offering respect, treating the Puja as both celebration and condolence.
