CLEVELAND, Ohio – Four locations within Cuyahoga Valley National Park will be subject to prescribed burns over the next several months in order to improve the natural habitat and protect its neighbors.
The fires will be ignited when conditions are appropriate between Oct. 1 and April 30 of next year.
“These fires will burn invasive plant species, create good soil conditions for native seeds, maintain habitats and reduce hazardous fuels that threaten local residents with fire hazards,” according to a CVNP news release.
The National Park Service plans to burn nearly 200 acres. The first site slated for a prescribed fire is an area of about 40 acres where Richfield Coliseum used to stand along Route 303 near the intersection with Interstate 271.
A second burn will conducted on about 129 a
