King Charles appears to have swapped out his signature Prince of Wales signet ring in a brand new portrait now on display in the Scottish Parliament.

The new portrait was unveiled by the King’s sister Princess Anne on Friday and shows the monarch wearing his own tartan and holding a handcrafted stick.

The photo was taken in the Sunken Garden in the grounds of his beloved Highlands estate at Balmoral Castle by photographer Millie Pilkington in 2024.

Holyrood’s Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone joined the Princess Royal for the unveiling, which coincided with the Scottish Parliament’s 25th anniversary.
