GLOBE, Ariz. — Chip Gieger and his wife stood helpless inside their RV, watching the floodwaters rise around them. A fight for survival during what officials are calling a historic flood in Globe.

“Total catastrophic failure here,” said Gieger, who recorded water pouring into their RV. “The water was six feet deep and fast, powerful.”

As the creek near their RV park overflowed, the couple realized they were in grave danger.

"We're saying our last prayers at that point, because we're at God's mercy," Gieger recalled.

The Giegers live and work at the RV park next to the creek in Globe. As the water climbed quickly, their RV became surrounded, leaving them no escape.

“You couldn't step out into it, because it would just sweep you away. We were trapped,” he said.
