A man has died in a drowning tragedy involving several swimmers on Tuesday.

It is understood up to five swimmers were pulled from Moore River in Guilderton, about an hour’s drive north of Perth , by bystanders who saw them in distress about 11.45am.

Sadly, a 38-year-old man was unresponsive and could not be saved.

The remaining swimmers were treated at the scene.

A woman and another man were taken to hospital.

Witness Ashley Gould was alerted to the emergency by her children, who saw the swimmers being assisted from the water.

“It was quite confronting,” she said.

Police have cordoned off the scene and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

Six years ago, in 2019, a seven-year-old girl drowned in Moore River after going missing during a day trip with her family.
