COLUMBIA, S.C. — Former South Carolina lawmaker R.J. May is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to multiple federal child pornography charges.
Federal prosecutors on Monday revealed disturbing details during court proceedings, describing the extent of May’s online activity and the scale of victimization involved.
Federal prosecutors said May possessed more than 200 videos of child sexual abuse material, including recordings involving infants and toddlers. Court records indicate that he distributed these files 470 times within a five-day period.
U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling condemned the acts in a public statement, calling them “deplorable, depraved, and disgusting,” and said that “every download re-victimizes these children and fuels this evil industry.”
