Newark Police credited the city’s ShotSpotter system with alerting them to gunfire in a neighborhood Monday evening.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. near the intersection of 15th Avenue and 10th Street.

The device detected approximately three rounds of gunfire, prompting officers to respond quickly to the scene.

When police arrived, they located several shell casings on the ground.

A search of the surrounding area determined that no injuries were reported.

Authorities said the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. The incident is under active investigation.
