Udupi, Sep 30: The Amasebailu police have arrested a man accused of cheating a jewellery store by purchasing gold rings worth thousands of rupees without making payment.

The incident dates back to November 3, 2024, when a man identifying himself as "Santosh" arrived at Sri Krishna Jewellery, Hosangadi, in a car. Claiming he was buying a gift, he purchased two gold rings worth around Rs 30,000.

The accused reportedly showed the jeweller a fake NEFT payment confirmation on his mobile phone and walked away with the rings. When the payment failed to reflect in the shop’s account, the store owner Manjunath Golla contacted the man, who allegedly assured that he would pay the following day — but never did.
