WASHINGTON — In a surprise announcement recently, the U.S. Postal Service said the price of first-class stamps will not increase in January 2026.

The decision to hold stamp prices at current levels is designed to provide stability for consumers in the coming year, the federal agency said.

The decision came after Postmaster General David Steiner recommended maintaining current rates for Market Dominant products, which includes all First-Class Mail. This recommendation then was accepted by the USPS Board of Governors, which means the cost of mailing a standard one-ounce letter will remain unchanged through at least the first half of 2026.
