Authorities were investigating Tuesday after they discovered skeletal remains in a Queens parking lot Monday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Police said workers for a surveying company who were in the area spotted what turned out to be a skull, legs and a hip bone in the wooded lot on 20th Avenue near 132nd Street in College Point. The surveyors called 911 around 4 p.m. to report the incident, leading officers to the scene.

Officials said the remains were likely human, but city medical examiners were still working to determine their origin and the cause of death. The wooded area is near a shopping center filled with commercial buildings.
