A dog park in Fort Fairfield, Maine, has been temporarily shut down after an outbreak of parvovirus cases in Aroostook County.

"Due to the rampant Parvovirus outbreak among dogs which seems to be county wide, we have temporarily locked up the dog park on the North Caribou Road," Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew Cummings said in a Facebook post Monday night. "We will continue to monitor this and re-evaluate in a few weeks, if we aren’t buried in snow by then."

The closure came one day after police in Houlton, located about 45 miles south of Fort Fairfield, posted an update on their Facebook page warning of several confirmed cases of parvovirus in their community.
