HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety has suspended commercial driver licenses for drivers who are non-citizens, refugees, asylees, and DACA recipients, according to a news release. The suspension comes after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration changed an emergency rule on Friday due to 'horrific, fatal crashes.' The FMCSA's release states that California is unsafe due to CDLs being improperly issued.
Besides California, other states such as Colorado, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington were also identified as unsafe due to not following federal regulations.
On Sept. 4, Governor Greg Abbott directed DPS to begin enforcing the English language proficiency requirements for commercial vehicle drivers on Texas roads.
