NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police report a fatal traffic accident on Paris Road near the Green Bridge that claimed the life of a pedestrian.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 4:20 a.m. Tuesday on a report of a collision, police said.

Responding officers discovered that a pedestrian had been struck by an 18-wheel truck traveling northbound, according to police.

New Orleans EMS confirmed the victim died at the scene.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area. No further information was immediately available.

Louisiana State Police are taking over the investigation.
