DES MOINES, Iowa —

One person was injured in a shooting Monday afternoon at a homeless encampment in Des Moines.

Officers responded to the area near SE 15th Street and Harriett Street after receiving a report of a shooting around 2:30 p.m., according to a news release from DMPD.

Crews found an adult male with a gunshot wound on the scene and transported him to a local hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The shooting is still under investigation, but DMPD Sgt. Paul Parizek said they do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public.
