The Commonwealth’s independent election observer group has raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s 2024 general elections, citing multiple factors that undermined the credibility, transparency and inclusiveness of the electoral process.
A key issue highlighted was the refusal to allocate the cricket bat party symbol to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which significantly affected the party’s ability to contest the elections fairly.
The 13-member Commonwealth Observer Group (COG), headed by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, was invited by Pakistan’s Election Commission to monitor the elections. In its final report, the group pointed out several conditions that appeared to restrict fundamental political rights and directly impacted PTI’s campaign efforts.
Among the
