The U.S. Justice Department is suing pro-Palestinian organizations and demonstrators, accusing them of violence and threats during a heated protest outside a West Orange synagogue — using a U.S. law that has traditionally been used against people blocking access to abortion clinics.
The civil lawsuit, filed Sept. 29 in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, alleges that attendees at the Nov. 13 demonstration outside Congregation Ohr Torah physically assaulted worshippers and used vuvuzelas — plastic trumpets sometimes used by soccer fans — to disrupt the event, according to the complaint.
