DES MOINES, Iowa -- Dr. Ian Roberts, who has worked as the Des Moines superintendent for the past two years, faces a noon deadline to prove to the school board that he has legal authority to work in the United States or he faces termination.
The board held an emergency meeting last night and placed Roberts on unpaid administrative leave . That followed action earlier in the day by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners to revoke Roberts’ professional license.
Without that license, Roberts would not be able to serve as a superintendent.
Roberts’ Apprehended
Federal agents apprehended Roberts, a native of Guyana, on Friday. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security reported that Roberts attempted to flee from authorities as they tried to apprehend him on Des Moines’ south side where he
