An Amber Alert has put a Central Florida teen in the wrong kind of spotlight.

On Monday, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods provided an update on the case of a “missing” 17-year-old named Caden Speight.

The original Amber Alert issued Thursday stated Speight was last seen in Dunnellon and could be in the company of four unknown, possibly Hispanic, males. The Amber Alert was canceled Friday stating “the child is safe.”

Woods said the initial details of Speight’s disappearance are false and texts to his family were “completely made up,” according to a sheriff’s office Facebook video post .

Speight also claimed he was shot and abducted, and while investigators found evidence of a single gunshot where he left his truck, it was part of a “ruse,” Wood said.
