The Mets’ season may have ended, but owner Steve Cohen scored a major win Tuesday for his ambitious plans off the field.
A Community Advisory Committee voted 6-0 to approve Cohen’s proposal to build an $8 billion casino and entertainment complex on a 50-acre parking lot near Citi Field in Queens.
The Metropolitan Park project, which Cohen has pitched as a year-round destination, calls for a full-scale casino, restaurants, retail and public space alongside the ballpark.
With the vote secured, the plan now advances to the state level, where New York officials are set to award three downstate casino licenses by the end of the year.
