Subway and bus fares are set to rise to $3 under a fare hike plan approved by the MTA board on Tuesday. The vote passed 11-0, with two mayoral appointees abstaining.

The plan, which is set to take effect in January, will raise the base fare for subways, local buses and Access-A-Ride from $2.90 to $3. Single-ride tickets will increase to $3.50. Express bus fares will rise to $7.25.
