It’s an attack sure to resonate with any New Jersey voter sick and tired of politicians using their office to enrich themselves.
On television, social media and in a recent debate, Republican Jack Ciattarelli has accused his Democratic opponent for governor of tripling her wealth while in Congress through shady stock trades.
“While New Jersey families were stretching every dollar, Mikie Sherrill was flipping stocks and cashing in — to the tune of $7 million,“ Ciattarelli said last week on X. ”No answers. No transparency. No decency. Just another politician getting rich while you get squeezed."
The claims — denounced by Sherrill’s campaign — have become a talking point of Ciattarelli and his surrogates as the increasingly bitter contest enters its final month.
But are they true?
