LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Making audiences think while laughing.

That’s what Northeast Ohio theater legend Sarah May is promising as director of “Andy Warhol in Iran,” which runs at the Beck Center for the Arts from Oct. 3 through Nov. 2 in the Studio Theater.

“I was really excited, having heard about this play a few years ago,” she said. “I sort of gravitate to shows that deal with issues, social justice or racism.

“I really love working on a show that’s got a lot of heart and a lot of humanity. This is very compelling and thought-provoking, just a lovely play.”

Written by Brent Askari, the timely “Andy Warhol in Iran” details an imagined encounter by the famous pop artist and portrait painter.

The director said the former begins his journey as a “totally apolitical guy.”
