PHOENIX — Arizona Congressman David Schweikert announced this week he's seeking the Republican nomination to run for governor in 2026.
Schweikert, who has represented Arizona in Congress since 2011, confirmed to KTAR News that he's planning to enter the gubernatorial race. The congressman will be potentially challenging Congressman Andy Biggs and Karrin Taylor Robson for the GOP nomination.
Whoever wins the nomination would presumably run against Democrat Katie Hobbs in the general election.
Robson, who lost the GOP nomination to Kari Lake in 2022, said Tuesday she welcomes Schweikert to the primary race.
"Arizona Republicans deserve a clear choice in this primary: a Trump-endorsed conservative outsider who built her success in the private sector, or yet another career politician.
