The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday released the 71st edition of the NCRB’s annual report, which provides a comprehensive analysis of crime statistics for 2023. The data shows that total crimes—comprising Indian Penal Code (IPC) offences and Special and Local Laws (SLL) violations—fell from 31,675 cases in 2021 to 30,197 in 2022, and further down to 29,595 in 2023.
While IPC-related cases dropped by 2,320 during this period, SLL cases saw a marginal rise. SLL-related offences increased from 4,22
