KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An investigation is underway after a 15-year-old boy was killed in an apartment fire last week in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department, at about 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, crews were called to an apartment complex near North 71st Street and Armstrong Avenue on reports of a fire.

When crews arrived, they reported seeing visible smoke coming from the upper apartment windows and were told a person was still trapped inside.

After crews got into the apartment, they reported finding an unresponsive 15-year-old boy on the second floor.

KCKFD said they proceeded to take him out of the apartment and began performing life-saving measures on the teen. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries shortly after arriving.
