KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo State Theatre has been purchased by new owners, who plan to preserve the building's history and install new upgrades for guests before reopening.
The historic theatre was sold to Lead Balloon Productions, owned by Dan and Holly Carmichael, on Monday.
The historic State Theatre was commissioned in 1927 and has played host to a broad range of artists—BB King, Black Sabbath and Chappell Roan, for example—along with opera performances, big bands and dramas.
Operations at the Kalamazoo State Theatre were paused in fall of 2024 in hopes of finding a new owner to take it on.
Now, the Carmichaels are hoping to give the theatre some upgrades and reopen by its 100th year.
