HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point woman pleaded guilty to felony child abuse after police say she burned the one-year-old boy she was babysitting while he was taking a bath.

Amesha Johnson appeared in court on Sept. 24.

The family of the child was present in court and asked the judge to give Johnson prison time, according to Assistant District Attorney Matt Stockdale.

Johnson was sentenced to three years of probation, according to Stockdale.

According to the High Point Police Department, officers were called to a local children's hospital back on March 1 about a possible child abuse case. When they arrived, they learned that the toddler had "severe burns on his hands and feet."
