ST PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and DFL legislative leaders on Tuesday unveiled a proposal for a special legislative session focused on gun violence prevention, school safety, mental health resources and law enforcement support, in response to the Annunciation Church shooting on Aug. 27.

The proposed session — which has not officially been called — would convene Monday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Minnesota State Capitol and conclude by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Lawmakers would be limited to considering a specific set of bills and appropriations aimed at improving public safety, according to the agreement.

"This proposal meets the expectations that Minnesotans have for their elected leaders — that we respond to threats to public safety and take direct action on guns," Walz
