MISHICOT, Wis. (WFRV) - A 64-year-old Manitowoc County woman pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of money laundering and could face up to 40 years in prison.

Acting United States Attorney Richard G. Frohling announced that Cherie Campion of Mishicot pleaded guilty on September 29 to the two charges.

According to the release, Campion generated and submitted thousands of fraudulent invoices through a temporary staffing agency in Manitowoc, causing losses in the following amounts: • $5,000,000 • $5,389,371.51

In addition to the losses, Campion tried to hide the crimes by registering a proxy company with the state, making up a fake persona to correlate with her fake invoices and posting fake bank statements.
