AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - We are on the cusp of rutting season in the bay state. A time when lots of deer, particularly the males, will be active. And that means drivers will have to be careful.
Western Mass News Spoke with Agawam Animal Control Officer Allison Strong, who said this particular time for the animals is dependent on the hours of daylight versus darkness.
“The male deer are really not thinking about anything other than mating right now. They have a tendency to lose about 20% of their body weight during this time. They’re not eating and sleeping like they should.” Said Strong.
While this usually happens in the bay state between late October and early December, with the peak of it being in mid-November, strong says it is likely to start sooner this time around: “We’re going
