A Dickson County 10-year-old is dead after he suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Lt. Jennifer Caruthers with the Dickson County Sheriffs Office said a call came in about the shooting around 9 p.m. at a Burns home Sept. 29.

The boy was rushed to a hospital but died of his wound. Caruthers said the department was not yet ready to release the boy's name.

Caruthers said it's unclear if the shooting was accidental or not and there is an active investigation.

"We're still gathering all the information," she said by phone.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case as of 8 a.m. Sept. 30.
