HAYS, Kan. (KSNW) -- Governor Laura Kelly has issued an executive order, ordering flags lowered to half staff in honor of Hays Police Sgt. Scott Heimann.

Heimann died early Sunday morning at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center after he was shot responding to a domestic violence incident in Hays. A procession of law enforcement from across the state escorted his body from Wichita back to Hays on Tuesday.

Kelly has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities from sunup to sundown on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, the day of his funeral.
